The Story of the Cross
I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked... Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep... For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations... I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles... See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.
On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb... Jesus took bread... “Take it; this is my body.” Then he took a cup... “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.” ...after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee... My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death... Abba, Father, everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will... the Scriptures must be fulfilled... “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am... And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” ...Crucify him! ...Why? What crime has he committed? ...Crucify him! ...And they crucified him... It was nine in the morning when they crucified him... Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe... At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon... My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? ...With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last... The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom... “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
